Eastern Naval Command admonishes the youth to refrain from activities that will mar the peace in Ghana 


The Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command, and the One Garrison of the Ghana Army, Commodore Emmanuel Bonsu, has reiterated the need for Ghanaians especially the youth to refrain from activities that will mar the peace the nation is currently enjoying. 

In an interview with Radio Ghana at this year’s Open Day at the Eastern Naval Command in Tema New Town, Commodore Bonsu, said considering the niche the country has carved for herself in the area of democracy and maintenance of peace, there is the need for continual sustainability of this feat to ensure development. 
 

The Open Day, which is organized once in a year by the Ghana Armed Forces, is to create the platform for civilian population to interact, deepen the Army-civilian relationship and familiarize themselves with the operations of the Ghana Army. 

This year’s celebration attracted about five thousand people to the Eastern Naval Command in Tema and the First Battalion at Michel Camp. 

As part of activities that marked the day, a photo exhibition was mounted while some members of the visiting public were also taken on a short cruise, in addition to other Military activities. 

Commodore Bonsu said considering the unfortunate civil strife in some countries in the Sub-Saharan Region, it is important for Ghanaian’s to protect the prevailing peace to create a congenial environment that will attract the needed investment for holistic development. He added that considering the discovery of new Oil Wells in the Jubilee Field, the Ghana Navy will ensure the continuous protection of the nation’s territorial waters against pirates and other illegal activities. 

Commodore Bonsu also urged fishermen in the coastal areas to desist from illegal fishing activities such as light fishing and other practices which do not only violate fishing regulations but also destroys aquatic life. He also thanked the government for providing modern Fishing Vessels to the Force, saying this will bolster their operations and ensure that the Navy cooperates with other international maritime agencies to be abreast of modern naval practices.
