NADMO calls for urgent establishment of Disaster Fund The Deputy National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, Ebenezer Dosoo, has called for the immediate establishment of the National Disaster Fund to cater for disaster issues. He said the fund that will be similar to the GETFUND, will be used to procure relief items and other logistics support to be periodically shared among district assemblies for disaster management. Mr. Dosoo made the call at a three-day Disaster Risk Reduction Refresher training workshop for staff and partners of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Abokobi in the Greater Accra Region. He said the fund will be an effective tool to stop incessant pressure of monetary and material assistance on the Central Government and NADMO to release relief items to disaster victims. Mr. Dosoo said NADMO has identified seven major hazard areas nationwide that can cause havoc to human beings and properties. It has in this regard trained disaster volunteers in all the districts throughout the country to educate people on the dangers of these hazards. The Executive Director of the Presbyterian Relief Service and Development, Reverend Daniel Oppong-Wereko, said the risk of disaster has existed since creation and most of them were caused by human activities. He expressed the hope that participants will go back to their communities to educate the people there on the knowledge they have acquired. GNA
