Island communities: Teachers salaries not paid 30 teaching assistants posted to some island communities on the Volta Lake in the Kwahu North District of the Eastern Region have not been paid for the past five months. Parents in these communities who are, mainly farmers and fishermen now live in fear as to whether the teachers would return to post to teach their children when school re-opens early next month. Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Assembly Member for Fripon-Shittor Electoral Area in Afram Plains, John Ahikpoe said already the District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service in Afram Plains is faced with acute shortage of teachers, therefore should these teaching assistants under the National Youth Employment Programme withdraw their services, it would greatly affect the people.
