UN ends military observes in Syria The United Nations, UN, has ended its military observer mission in Syria, days before its mandate expires. France's UN Ambassador Gerard Araud who said, this after a Security Council meeting added that the conditions to continue the mission were not fulfilled. The UN Mission had been part of International Envoy, Kofi Annan's six-point peace plan but continued violence made the observers' mission increasingly difficult. The observers' patrols were suspended in mid-June, because of the significant risk to their lives. BBC
