13th August, 2012 The Daily Graphic lauds the Funeral Committee for successfully organising a fitting send-off for our late President in less than three weeks. The paper however appeals to those who have the capacity to serve in any position to consider the plight of the excluded and use their positions to advance the cause of humanity. It says politics will continue to be relevant to our society only if it serves the public good. The Graphic therefore appeals to those who will win political power to revisit the winner taxes-all policy. It says how Ghanaians came together to bury President Mills, has won International praise, which shows that in unity lies strength. The Ghanaian Times comments on the sermon delivered at the burial of Prof. Mills by the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante. The paper agrees with him that death is inevitable for which reason all, irrespective of their social status must lead lives that conform to the teachings of Christ. It says there is no need to clamour for wealth at the expense of one's life, because when death finally beckons, earthly things that are acquired are left behind. The Times says it is therefore important for Ghanaians to draw lessons and strength from the legacy of Prof. Mills by opening new chapters of tolerance, civility and unity to move the country forward. It says the intemperate political discourse which threatened the peace of the nation should stop, as the nation take consolation from the unity so far provided by the late President. The Today Newspaper says it is short of words to describe what happened to the nation. It calls on the populace to be united and show sympathy towards the family of the late President Mills. The Today Newspaper says there is the need to understand that President Mills was the President of Ghana and not a political party or any group. Therefore it is expedient that with one accord, the nation mourns the death of the departed President. GBC NEWS
