COMMENTARY
REFLECTING ON THE DEATH OF PROF JOHN EVANS ATTA MILLS IN MY OWN CORNER
There is something that has been going through my mind since the death of Prof John Evan Atta Mills the former President of the Republic of Ghana who was constitutionally elected and sworn in as President. 
That is, if politics is not for decent and cool headed people then I believe this country of ours will be facing trouble some day and the country would also loose good citizens who can become good politicians as well as people who can stand for the high office of this country in the future. Committed citizens who can develop the country to the level we all want it to be and uphold and defend the good name of Ghana for which our fore-fathers toiled and fought for by shedding valued blood. 
Since Prof John Evan Atta Mills’ inception of office as President of Ghana, he was vilified, called names like, Atta the mortuary man, Prof stagnant, a thief, a walking dead man, etc. by his own people in the NDC and also in the NPP and other opposition parties.
However, one thing that strikes me most to my bones as a youth of this country is that, there are a lot of people who have benefited from him (Prof. Atta Mills), some of those he taught, are prominent lawyers and judges, Members of Parliament, some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as well. The most guilty of them are the young ones who have not even accomplished half of what he achieved as an individual, a public servant and a President but their voices are even louder than those who have relatively achieved something.
I am extremely ashamed of those who knew him from his hay days, some who were his class mates, school mates, his team mates etc. who never for one second came to his defense when all odds were against him, the personality they knew well and what he stood for as well as what he could do for this country of ours but they chose to sit on the fence living him alone to the mercies of those I may call indecent personalities who does not have the respect for culture, nature and the fear of God in them. I say this because our traditional settings allows us to respect our elders and leaders even if the person is a young chap, once we have chosen him or her to lead that respect must be accorded to him or her.
Traditional settings frown on the opposite not to talk about our Christian settings or values and nature itself. All those behaviors are not in good spirit in human lives. So it behooves on us to call those indecent behaviors to order, other than condoning and conniving with them.
But today what we are seeing, is all those who knew him well on his personalities and capabilities are now coming out singing him praises upon praises, telling the whole world of what he stood for, how noble he was and what he has been able to achieve for this country and where he would have been able to send Ghana to if not for his untimely death? They even said good governance was his hallmark. Then my question is, they all knew this so why did they sit on the fence? Was his continuous existence a problem to their survival as the Prof himself asked? This alone shows that the path of politics we have chosen to ply is dangerous and unhealthy to our very existence as a Nation and his death has really given me an in-depth knowledge on who I and the generations to come should want to lead this very country of ours so as to have eternal peace that we enjoyed so far and which we would enjoy in the near future. Remarkably, the late president has been calling the shot that this indecent kind of body politics does not befits us as Ghanaian therefore the need to stay away from them by preaching peace on every forum or the least opportunity he had which have endeared him to some of us and the subsequent accolade bestowed on him as the Asomdwe Hene. Indeed he was an Asomdwe Hene. Yes his existence was a stumbling block to some people’s survival and that of their parochial interest because if that hadn’t happen then his rulership might have changed Ghanaians perspectives and aspirations to the kind of persons they should choose to rule them so as to develop the country to an appreciable level and if that happens these person or person’s would be lost in the system and their political ambitions would come to nothing but a mere mirage as their investment would be lost. But God knowing very well the agenda of these people have and how Ghana could become after the 2012 election decided to overturn the misfortune because this country of ours cannot afford to throw away all the gains we have made as a country that is why God decided to call his beloved son to come and rest because he has done enough on this land. Why would God leave him here to suffer in the Hands of the wicked? No not on his life as he did to Job. The nature of atmosphere his death has brought to this country although very painful, personally, I see it as a blessing to this country as you the reader can attest to unless you refused to open your eyes to see and listen to all others and if your sense of judgment is cloud with party coloures that would be the only way you will disagree with me. I pray that the older Generation, the leaders would seize the opportunity to call us to order to seize all tribal incitement, hate speech, intolerance in the name of politics, insults and vilifications should seize in the interest of Ghana and Peace. Long live the spirit of Prof John Evans Atta Mills, Long live Ghana. Ghana has indeed lost a true son. Demirifa dwe, Papa Atta
