Late President Atta Mills' Body Lies In State The body of Late Prof Mills has been laid in state at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra. Currently, dignitaries are filing past the body. President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President, Kwesi Amissah Arthur, the widow Ernestina Naadu Mills, Speaker of Parliament, Joyce Bamford Addo and the Chief Justice, Georgina Wood were among the first people to file past the body. We also had former President Jerry Rawlings and his wife as well as former President J.A. Kufuor, former Vice President Aliu Mahama file past the body. Earlier the family of the late president viewed the body at the 37 military hospital Mortuary after which it was moved to his private residence at Regimanuel Gray estate at Spintex then to the Castle, Osu. It was accompanied by the wife, Naadu Mills, family members and other dignitaries. Meanwhile, a large crowd of mourners, including Ministers, Parliamentarians, diplomats and the general public have gathered in and around the State House in Accra to observe the process. Some of them could not withstand the sight of the body and broke down in uncontrollable tears. In line with tradition, Mrs Naadu Mills, is sitting close to the body, joined by the son of the late President, Kofi Samuel Atta Mills and Works and Housing Minister, E.T Mensah to receive greetings from mourners who are filing past. Political parties also continue to pay tribute to the late President John Evans Atta Mills. In a farewell message, the PNC flagbearer, Hassan Ayariga asked Ghanaians not to be worried about the death of the late Prof. Mills but see it as a call by the Almighty to unite the nation. The flagbearer of the PPP, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom said even though the late President was a professional and private person he chose to do public service. And he respects the late President for that. The flagbearer of the CPP, Dr. Abu Sakara Foster said the late Prof. Mills will be remembered by all for his tenacity and commitment to the development of the nation. From the regions, our correspondents report of a number of activities to mark the final funeral rites of Professor Atta Mills. In the Ashanti Region, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has lined up a number of activities to mark the final funeral rites of Professor Atta Mills. A Director of the Council, Samuel Nuroh Ampomsah, said as part of the events a vigil is expected to take place at the Jubilee Park where people of all walks of life and shades of opinion will join mourners. Correspondent Thomas Nsowah Adjei reports that the metropolis is quiet because of the final funeral rites of the late President, Professor Evans Atta Mills. He tells Kpakpo Bruce in Accra that the people in Ashanti Region have indeed demonstrated a sense of unity since the Professor passed on. From the Northern Region, the people of the West Mamprusi District say the late President, Professor Evans Atta Mills will be remembered by the people for the numerous projects he brought to the area. The District Chief Executive, Adam Yusuf who spoke to Radio Ghana said the number of schools provided within the short period of time is facilitating effective teaching and learning in the District.
