University of Cape Coast to begin Law Programme The University of Cape Coast (UCC) in the Central Region has held a press conference to outline activities marking its 50th anniversary celebrations in Accra, today. Delivering her speech, the Vice Chancellor of the UCC, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, disclosed that the University of Cape Coast in her efforts to respond to the changing needs of the nation has established a law faculty. The faculty does not only promise to be one of the finest in West Africa but also meet the highest international standards for a faculty of law, Prof. Opoku Agyemang opined. According to her, the first batch of students will be admitted into the law programme by August 2012. She said, the University has restructured its degree programmes by de-coupling the study of professional education courses from the main degree courses. This she explained, done to allow flexibility of choices in courses offered by the university. Prof. Opoku Agyemang said by so doing specific needs of students will be catered for, while the university still focuses on its traditional mission of producing highly qualified and skilled manpower for the educational sector. The Vice Chancellor, again noted the university has on a sustainable basis, continued to undertake a number of building projects designed to increase the stock of laboratories, lecture theatres, office units and hostel facilities for both staff and students. She noted that, the school has been a pacesetter in many disciplines, programmes and policies, setting an agenda for others to follow.
