Akomadan to increase tomato production 

Government is investing GHC 35,000 towards reactivating irrigation projects to boost tomato production at Akomadan in the Offinso North district of Ashanti. 

Already, the 65 hectare land cultivated is being expanded to 165 hectares. 

The Offinso North DCE, Samuel Kwadwo Appiah-Kubi disclosed this at a ceremony at Akomadan during which some schools were presented with laptop computers while some teachers who underwent a training course in ICT received certificates. 

The DCE noted that some farmers would be sent abroad to learn modern farming techniques to improve upon their tomato production for the benefit of the nation. 

Mr Appiah-Kubi said however that there is the need for the construction of additional small irrigation systems so as to enable Akomadan to regain its lost fame as the home of quality tomatoes in Ghana. 

He said the District Assembly will upgrade some of the deplorable feeder roads in the area to improve upon transportation and carting of farm produce. 

The DCE announced that six communities are being connected to the national grid.
