Kotoko aim for Champions League qualification
A comfortable first leg victory in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League almost secures Asante Kotoko passage to the next round.

The Ghanaian champions hold a seven-goal lead against Sony Ela Nguema ahead of their return clash in Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors, who are returning to the Champions League after four seasons will be eager to ease themselves into the next stage of the competition.

Though the tie might seem a foregone conclusion, Kotoko, two-time African champions are refusing to get carried away after their first leg goal-rush as they seek to avoid unnecessary bookings.

“We believe it is a matter of getting the right tactics. It is not about scoring many goals. It is about securing qualification to the next stage. We know we start as favourites but we cannot be complacent.

“We have to avoid picking cards that could affect future games. We need not agitate but rather contain them, be more possessive and work for qualification,” said Mas-ud Didi Dramani, coach of Kotoko.

A host of African Champions League first-timers scored on their debut Kotoko crushed Nguema 7-0 in the first leg.

A brace from striker Kofi Nti Boakye, Abdul Aziz Yusif, Michael Anaba, Richard Mpong, Siedu Bancey and Joseph Ochaya handed the initiative to Kotoko.
