Accra Psychiatric Hospital starts decongestion on Monday

The Accra Psychiatric Hospital will on Monday send home 30 treated patients as part of its decongestion exercise.

Chief Psychiatrist at the hospital, Dr. Akwasi Osei tells Radio Ghana that the hospital hopes to send home at least 200 treated patients by the end of the year.

Last year, the hospital embarked on a decongestion exercise through which it sent home 450 treated patients.

Early this week, an inmate strangled another inmate to death, a situation largely attributed to overcrowding at the hospital, but Dr. Osei said that has nothing to do with the decongestion exercise.
