President John Dramani Mahama says his government will ensure that every Ghanaian is given the needed protection before, during and after the December 7 General Election.

The president gave the assurance while addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of the Ashanti Region on his Thank You Tour.

Speaking in the Twi language, President Mahama said “all-die-be-die biaaa n’nihor,” to wit, there will be no ‘all-die-be-die’ ahead of the elections.

President Mahama said all Ghanaians are one people with a common destiny and that everyone must eschew divisive tendencies that can destroy the nation.

He stated there is no reason why Ghanaians should draw machetes and assault weapons on each other just because of an election.

As president of the republic, President Mahama said, he will liaise with the security apparatuses to ensure that there is peace and security during the elections. He called on all the political parties to accept the decision of the voters after the election and desist from fomenting trouble.

He called on Ghanaians to appreciate the fact that God is the Kingmaker and that he is certain that whoever emerges as winner of the election will be who God has chosen for the country.

He urged the chiefs in the region to also contribute their quota in promoting peace.

He thanked the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for sending emissaries to commiserate with the government and family of the late President Mills during the funeral and burial rites.

President Mahama bemoaned the growing rate of acerbic commentary on Ghana’s airwaves by young people. He indicated that some young people just show up at radio stations to insult people who are far older than them.

He however said people have a right to vent their spleen when they are unhappy with certain issues that are ongoing in the country but it is critical to do so with respect to all.

He said the Ashanti Region is a critical part of Ghana and that his government will ensure that the region receives its fair share of the national cake.
