23 districts to benefit from MIDA credit facilities
Agricultural Production is to receive a major boost through the provision of the Millennium Challenge Account. Speaking at a stakeholders forum in Tamale, the Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Development Authority, Martin Esson Benjamin said government intends to use the over 500 million dollar fund to create an enabling environment for cash and food crop farmers by giving them financial assistance to boost production .
According to Mr. Esson Benjamin, Ghana has a great advantage in boasting agricultural productivity in an attempt to alleviate poverty in the rural communities. He said under the five year MIDA programme credit facilities will be given to farmers in the 23 selected districts across the country to move into serious agricultural business.
Government also plans to use the programme to undertake massive infrastructural development in the target areas. Mr. Esson Benjamin said that 65 million dollars was accessed last year from the MCA fund, adding, that 320 million dollars will also be accessed this year in terms of contracts. In the Northern Region five districts have been selected to benefit from the project.
